On March 6,2016 AWARD Pakistan organized its 12th annual Women Conference with the theme "Step it Up for Gender Equality". The day was celebrated to glorify the achievements of the women in every walk of life and also to promote gender equality in the society. Nearly 800 women participated in the conference from which 90% belonged to the different target rural areas of AWARD Pakistan.The participation from other 2 regions (Muzaffargarh and Mansehra) was also present. Mr. Khalil Tahir Sandhu (Provincial Minister of Human Rights and Minority Affairs) was the chief guest of the program. In his talk he appreciated the efforts of AWARD Pakistan for women empowerment and also highlighted the main points of the Women Protection Bill which has recently become the part of the law.He called it a major achievement of the Government and ensured that through this newly passed bill women of Pakistan will be more protected and secured. He also assured his support and cooperation for AWARD Pakistan wherever and whenever needed.Mrs. Fehmida Saleem was the guest speaker of the conference. In her speech she emphasized on the routes that leads to development. She urged that a balance should be kept in the rights of women and men in reference to the newly passed women protection bill. The program also included the cultural items which were presented by the beneficiaries from all the regions (Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Mansehra and Muzaffargarh). The band performance which was presented by AWARD Band was very much liked by the participants. The theater performance which was the core section of the conference and was based on the human rights education left the participants quite motivated and enthusiastic to make steps to change their lives.
